FOR THE LOVE OF THE GREEK KEY

The Greek key motif is a highly visible and timeless pattern in the world of interior design and is often featured in a myriad of design elements such as wallcovering, drapery, rugs, various trims, furnishings, and accessories just to name a few.

The Greek Key motif has many aliases. Among them are “Greek fret” and “meander”. Meander took its name from the river Meander, a river with many twists, and was mentioned by Homer in Iliad. The meander, or Greek key, was the most important symbol in Ancient Greece, symbolizing infinity or the eternal flow of things. Many temples and objects were decorated with this motif, and it is considered that there is a connection with the Cretan labyrinth – indeed - a labyrinth can be drawn using a Greek key.

The pattern is also recognized to symbolize the bonds of friendship, devotion and love. Maybe that’s why it’s loved so much and used in many various ways in the world of design. Take a look below and catch a glimpse of the Greek key at its best!
